Job Details

You will have the opportunity to shape large-scale strategic development within Hemel Garden Community in partnership with other Councils and to transform the service through the delivery of new replacement planning software. 

You will oversee, coordinate, and deliver a development management service that puts development plans and documents into action, complies with statutory and corporate requirements and policy, and applies an entrepreneurial approach to service delivery. You will also work as part of the Government’s Open Digital Community, delivering customer-focused software solutions. Key Accountabilities in the role include:

  • Manage the delivery of a development management service, including the management and supervision of this team
  • Recruit, develop and motivate a team of people who are committed to delivering an excellent and seamless planning service
  • Ensure planning decisions are transparent, consistent and robust through clear communication of national and local policy and seek to reduce the number of appeals
  • direct the delivery of place shaping and sustainable development which is informed through the District’ historic built and natural environment

Role Reporting

  • you will have a large planning team of direct reports
  • you will be reporting directly to the Strategic Director in the Community & Place Delivery Directorate

About You

You will have a degree or master's level qualification in Town Planning and be a chartered member of the RTPI.  A knowledge of the development management process and experience of appeals is essential, as is a knowledge of urban design and regeneration.

You will also be an experienced people manager who is able to provide confident team leadership.

Job Package

  • £61,713 - £66,580 per annum salary + £4,500 annual market supplement
  • 19.7% pension contribution
  • 30.5 days annual leave + bank holidays, which increases with service
